I'm a very avid gamer, and i thought that for my next photoshop i'd take an already existing picture and create a focus.
I figured its been a while since i last thought about Chrono Cross, so i took a crack at it.
It was originally a bright sunny beach, and if you've played the game or look on google you will know what i'm talking about. I took out Kid and i darkened the rest of the screen. I then put in the Chrono Cross logo in the corner just for that "i'm pushing the copyright by taking an existing photo and editing it" feeling.
After i submit this, i'm going to put a disclaimer somewhere on my page
Oh wow, glad you guys like it. I just submitied it and kuraitaiyo is sitting right next to me giggling on my getting comments this fast.
Thanks for the favs too guys
hm... while I love chrono cross, there are a couple gripes with this image.
firstly it looks like it was enlarged beyond the size it started at, it's slightly pixelated, also it looks like Kid ws cut too quickly without taking the care to ensure the clouds by her hair were completly removed. also in some places, like her shoulder, he apears a little bit blockey, like you used the polygon lasso in photoshop without tracing cloely enough to the edge of the character.
the darkening was an interesting effect, though if you had maybe thrown a few stars in the sky you could have pulled off a night time image as opposed to just random darkness without a reason.
the logo looks too rough for it's size. smaller images like logo's should have a high level of clarity, and if you had made the layer the logo was on semi-transparent it would have looked more like a nifty watermark and less like a paste on from elsewhere.
I do apreciate your taste in games, however. The two Chrono games are gems of the RPG genre, and far too often overlooked.
sorry if my critique was a little harsh, but I like to see new people working with video game images, and I wanted to offer some small advice so you can improve more quickly. (becuase everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, from famous painters to random artists at home, needs to improve.)
Thank you very much Leonus. I am glad that someone finally posted a critique on the work.
I am new to the photoshopping scene, so while I am getting somewhat of a feel for using effects with layers, I'm lacking in using them effectively.
You correctly pointed out that i did blow up the image to far larger than its original size. I tired to smooth it out as best I could, but as you have pointed out, it didn't go over too well.
As i get better with the tools, I'll produce better looking images. In time, i'll come back and revise my first pieces, i've set myself to that fact.
Until them, keep checking back on me and watch my skills grow
